I have never really been into video games as I'm sure some other girls haven't either. It was never really a problem in my younger relationships because we didn't spend every day together. Now I am going on 20 at the same college as my 23-year-old boyfriend. We do spend every day together so his habits of loving the game and gaming every time he has free time have become a problem.
I think sometimes the boyfriends think us girlfriends are a little bit stupid. They think we will keep believing the lie of "just one more match" or "just one more mission". I only believed this like once. Then I learned my lesson. I can't be the only one who starts talking to their boyfriend and thinks he's listening but in reality, he's listening to his friends on his headset.
I can't even take a nap around him when he has his game because he can't hear how loud he talks when he is on his headset - no way you can sleep with that going on. Sometimes it's funny and sometimes it is frustrating how you could say something to them and get a response, then you realize the response wasn't for you but for someone in his party chat.
It's not all bad though. When you are busy or just want to hang with the girls but feel bad for not being with him. Guess what - he's okay because he has his game and his online friends. Most of the time the boyfriends are happy to give us time to hang out with the girls or even just have alone time.
Some people make their best friends on the game and my boyfriend is one of those people. Some of his friends live really far away and last year they came to where we live to visit for his birthday, and it was awesome getting to meet the people I hear about all the time. His game friends are the only people he talks to as much as he talks to me.
It can be hard to not get his attention sometimes. At times I want to be selfish and have all of his attention, but I'm glad he has a hobby that helps him make friends and get his mind off the stresses of life. I will always support something that he loves to do. I am tempted to get a game system and learn how to game so maybe I could make some more friends and find something I like to do.
