Why Bottle Flipping Is A Bad Idea

People have hurt themselves as well as the environment, so stop.

Bottle flipping is more than just an internet sensation, it can actually harm the environment.

The Fad of throwing plastic water bottles into the air and landing them wherever has been sweeping the nation for a few months now. It's parts excitement and creativity and it's pretty much like planking, where you find some weird place to do it and you make it happen. You remember planking right; this huge thing where you would find some random slab of something and then you would, you know, plank. It was very harmful if you were stupid.

A YouTuber decided to use glass bottles to flip. Of course, the bottle breaks and shattered glass flies everywhere. Do you think normal people or kids, with access to glass bottles, are going to clean it up? No, they're going to leave it until someone complains and it gets taken care of. If it's on the road (like the above video) it could potentially cut a tire, cars, bikes, whatever, glass has no preference. It can also harm animals, birds see something on the road that's out of place and they go in for the kill, which would lead to their kill. Other animals could step on it and cut themselves. I may seem like an agitated mom that's speaking at a neighborhood meeting but I'm really a college student that gets annoyed with stupid people that could ruin my day.

Another instance of stupidity, in this video someone, throws a bottle on top of a fast food sign and it stays there. It's like 20 feet tall (I'm terrible at measurements but it's a tall sign) and so there's no way to get it down without like hurting someone because it's by the road and you are by people and it's just stupid. How does this make you feel like you accomplished something rather than doing homework or being productive like you should be? I can see that it sparks originality and creativity but I feel it also causes recklessness and lack of self-preservation.
Thanks to this Teen Vogue article, we find out where this challenge came from a junior in high school. Being bored in Chemistry class is not just your thing, it happens to all of us, especially Michael Senatore. According to the fashion magazine, the high school student started flipping bottles in his chemistry class after a lab. It became a huge ordeal and then he wanted to flip bottles for his senior year talent show and it went viral. Since then this guy has made TV show appearances and he has a large following.

Back to the harmful effects, when never see the end of the water bottles. Are they recycled? Do people care what happens to them after the fact? I know that people have bought packages of water bottles to try and flip them with friends.

Not only is it harmful to the environment, it's harmful to the flipper and surrounding pupils. In this video, people have literally cut themselves trying to succeed in this challenge.

Please, if you decide to do this challenge think about your surroundings and the final chapter of the bottle's life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
