Here's What You Should Eat To Boost Your Immune System This Year
Winter is probably when I get sick the most. I love the White Loop, but during the winter I think it's really just a deathly trap to get sick. Besides doing the usual washing of hands, we can also eat certain foods that can boost our immune systems and prevent a sick day:

1. Spinach

Spinach is loaded with vitamins C and E, antioxidants, and beta carotene that will boost your immune system. Keep in mind that it is best to cook as little as possible in order to retain the nutrients.

2. Blueberries

Blueberries contain a flavonoid called anthocyanin, which is an antioxidant that helps improve the immune system. Based on research, it is concluded that those who ate foods with flavonoids were less likely to get an upper respiratory tract infection or common cold in comparison to people who did not consume foods with flavonoids.

3. Almonds

Almonds are a source of vitamin E, manganese, magnesium, and fiber. Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant and therefore helps the immune system.

4. Kale

Kale is said to be one of the healthiest foods in the world. Not only does its nutrients help with cardiovascular issues, but it also has so many nutrients that can keep you healthy by boosting the immune system.

5. Citrus fruits

Citrus fruits are rich in vitamin C, which promotes the production of white blood cells. White blood cells fight infections. Moreover, Vitamin C can help reduce the duration of the cold. This includes fruits such as oranges, lemons, grapefruits, etc.

6. Green tea

Green tea has the ability to increase the number of regular T cells that contribute to the immune system function.

7. Yogurt

Yogurt contains live cultures that function as a probiotic which helps the immune system. Probiotics are the good bacteria that help the digestive system.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
