Every year I participate in the Goodreads Reading Challenge. Last year, my goal was to read 48 books, but I was only able to attain 23 books. For 2018, one of my resolutions is to read more, so I reduce my goal to 30, which should still be a challenge, but not out of reach. Though I still have a few books to add to my list, these are 18 books I'm most looking forward to reading in 2018!

1. "Ashtray" by Emma Donoghue

I absolutely loved "Room" by Emma Donoghue, and I just had to read another one of her novels. Astray follows various plotlines from a diverse group of characters from immigrants to slaves. And somehow, someway - everything comes together in the end.

2. "Choke" by Chuck Palaniuk

"Choke" by Chuck Palahniuk follows a medical school dropout who goes to restaurants and pretends to choke in order to pay for his mother's treatment.

3. "Manson: The Life and Times of Charles Manson"

Serial killers are weird and interesting, and that's all I have to say.

4. "Turtles all the Way Down" by John Green

Everything by John Green is a magical masterpiece. This is also an own voices novel that is largely influenced by John Green's experience with OCD.

5. "Maze Runner" by James Dasher

I really just need to read this whole series before the movies are released.

6. "Dexter" by Jeff Lindsey

Again, serial killers are weird and interesting.

7. "The Iron Trials" by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

Holly Black and Cassandra Clare are both my favorite fantasy authors, so a book by both of them just might make me explode.

8. "Lolito" by Ben Brooks

Lolita is a classic to me, and to have a modern, gender-switched rendition is...risky.

9. "Loss" by Jackie Morse Kessler

This whole series is amazing to me. Picture this, Kurt Cobain as Death, one of the Riders of the Apocalypse, on a mission to find the new Riders of the Apocalypse. Not only did this books grab me because, I mean, Kurt Cobain. Of course, I had to read this, but Kessler also follows young characters experiencing a variety of mental health illness, such as self-harm and eating disorders.

10. "Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn

Again, everyone has seen the movies...except for me

11. "Cress" by Marissa Meyer

Imagine every fairytale you've ever been told - now add steampunk, and you have the Lunar Chronicles. I can't wait for this series to become a movie.

12. "Library of Souls" by Ransom Riggs

To be honest, I'm more interested in the photographs in these books than the actual story.

13. "The Books of Lost Things" by John Connolly

A book about a character getting stuck in books. Bookception!

14. "Collateral" by Ellen Hopkins

Ellen Hopkins is a literature goddess. That is all.

15. "I am Not a Serial Killer" by Dan Wells

I have a thing for serial killers, okay. It's a problem, please don't judge me!

16. "If I Stay" by Gayle Forman

I feel like everyone has read this book and seen this movie...except for me.

17. "George" by Alex Gino

It makes me so happy to see so much representation in books now! A transgender main character, yasss girl YASSS!

18. "These Broken Stars" by Annie Kaufman

A space princess and a space commoner escape the planet together. Where could this go wrong?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
