7 Books That Will Get You Out Of Your Reading Slump

The sad thing about books is that sometimes you have to wait a long time for certain books to be released. If you’re like me, most of the books on your “to-be-read” list are slated to come out in the next six to 24 months. Here are seven books that can help you survive your current reading slump.

1. “Copper Sun” by Sharon M. Draper

This is perfect for this who love historical or realistic fiction. I remember reading this book for an assignment a million years ago. The best part “Copper Sun” is that there's never a dull moment. Sharon Draper is brilliant. There's a pretty high chance that you'll finish it on one sitting.

2. “Attachments” by Rainbow Rowell

If you're not reading Rainbow Rowell you need to start. Seriously, her books are so good they can probably change your life. “Attachments” is perfect if you want a light read with super relatable characters. Lincoln's character development is fantastic while Beth and Jennifer's friendship will give you major BFF goals. Rainbow knows her stuff.

3. “Scythe” by Neal Shusterman

Neal Shusterman is great for those who like dystopian and science fiction. Following Citra and Rowan's journey into the Scythdome, “Scythe” is an absolute page-turner. Unlike most dystopian novels, “Scythe” is not super predictable and the characters are likable. Plus, if you like “Scythe” you'll probably love Shusterman 's “Unwind” series as well.

4. “The Almost Sisters” by Joshilyn Jackson

I picked this book up as a fluke and I'm so glad I did. This is a lighthearted, somewhat chicklit read that's both funny and dramatic at the same time. This book is a fast read and perfect for someone looking for a great story without large amounts of drama.

5. “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” By Phillip K. Dick

If you've seen “Bladerunner” you'll love Phillip K. Dick's “Do Android Dream of Electric Sheep?” (mostly because the movie parallels the book). With the rise of artificial intelligence, “Androids” really feels like a cautionary tale which is both scary and amazing. If you're looking for a mystery, thriller and science fiction masterpiece, I definitely recommend this one.

6. “The Female of the Species” by Mindy McGinnis

“The Female of the Species” is a great mix of creepy and exciting. I'll admit this book what not what I was expecting. If anything, this is probably one of the least predictable books I've read. If you like girl power and want to try something mysterious, this book is for you.

7. "Cinder" by Marissa Meyer

If you love fairytale retellings, this book series will not disappoint. While this book is marketed towards younger readers, it is a great read for all ages. "Cinder" is the first book in the series and follows a post-modern Cinderella. The other books in the series follow Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Snow White. With Marissa Meyer's expert storytelling and fantastic writing, "Cinder" (and the other books in the series) will keep you busy for a long time.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
