10 Books That Should Be On Your Summer Reading List

A few of my favorite books that I've read this year that are perfect on the beach amongst other sunny places.

I love all of these books a lot because they are all incredibly written. All of the authors have such a different tone but every book listed is perfect for that sunny day at the beach or boring rainy day!

Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn

A thriller novel centered around the main characters Amy and Nick Dunne. Amy frames her husband for her murder after she finds out Nick has been cheating on her, and it all goes downhill from there.

Night - Elie Wiesel

If you like biographies this is definitely the book for you. It is a harrowing true story about Wiesel's experience with his family as a Jew in World War II Germany.

Catcher In The Rye - J. D. Salinger

Holden Caulfield takes you through the days right after he is expelled from prep school. You'll develop a love-hate feeling towards him because although he is relatable at times, he can be very pretentious.

The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald

If you're into symbolism this is definitely the book for you. Also if you just want to time travel to 1920s New York City to experience the lavish culture I highly recommend this classic.

The Stranger - Albert Camus

This is the book on this list I have most recently read. It is a classic novel based on the philosophy absurdism that the protagonist Meursault follows. If you want a book that's going to make you think, this is the one.

The Longest Ride - Nicholas Sparks

My favorite Nicholas Sparks book by far. It's super cheesy but I absolutely loved it.

The Dandelion Insurrection - Rivera Sun

A book about the importance of democracy and freedom of the press. Rivera Sun incorporates metaphors that can be applied to 2018 America.

Very Good Lives - J.K. Rowling

Not the typical book when you think of author J.K. Rowling, but definitely incorporate this book into your reading list if you need words that will enlighten the soul.

The Handmaid's Tale - Margaret Atwood

This book now has a popular Hulu series based off of it. This is a dystopian novel that will make you stop and think about the future of the world.

The Legacy of Luna - Julia Butterfly Hill

A book about the importance of the environment. Hill spends time living in the Redwoods of California and discusses why the environment should be protected and cared for.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
