American Rhetoric: Movie Speeches

In my senior year of high school, I remember my economics teacher telling us that women had now surpassed men in receiving college degrees. I was both stunned and proud. I was happy to see more women choosing education as a way to better themselves, especially in this new fast paced world. However to me, I have still seen a horrifying trend among girls I know. They are giving up their education for boys and it is terrifying.

While I am all about a sort of "Eat, Pray, Love" experience as a way to find yourself and cure your heartbreak, I don't think I could ever get behind it costing a woman her education. While I also agree that there are plenty of other ways of learning besides just school, a degree is essential to be successful in this world and I don't think that societal norm will be changing anytime soon.

I have seen numerous girls give up their college educations because a boy broke their heart. It's hard to focus on assigned readings, essays, and exams when all you want to do is curl up in a blanket with some Ben and Jerry's and an Office marathon on Netflix but it's essential. It's healthy and normal to feel sad at the end of a relationship, but women need to stop letting it affect the other aspects of their life, especially in the realm of their education.

I have seen girls with only one or two semesters left of school give it up completely because they can't bear the idea of having to face an ex-boyfriend. When in actuality, going to class and finishing school is one of the best ways to get over a relationship. Through education, a woman can better herself, and become even more successful in their individual lives which is truly the best thing a woman can do for herself: focus on herself, her education, and her success first.

So when a boy breaks your heart, let it soak in for a little bit, give it a few days time. Allow yourself to be comforted by junk food, Netflix, and your best friends. Then pick yourself up and let your heartbreak motivate you to become better in all realms possible. Prove to yourself that you can create your happiness and success.

Education is the best tool we can have at doing this. Never let a boy get in the way of your education and bettering yourself because at the end of the day it's yourself you have to face in the mirror.

So let Elle Woods be your inspiration by cracking those books, killing those essays, and acing those tests because as she so eloquently put it, "what like it's hard?"

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
