I’m all about binge-watching TV shows.
Right there is an accurate representation of me.
I’m one of those people who have a Netflix, Amazon Video, and Hulu account. While I’ve pretty much worked my way through most Netflix shows, I have found myself searching through the unfamiliar on Hulu.
I had seen advertisements before about "The Bold Type" but I kind of just put it on the back burner. Over winter break I thought, why not? There were a couple familiar faces in the show and I personally am a fan of those actresses.
Right as the first episode started, I was hooked. I was all about the different dynamics of the characters and in a way it reminded me of the characters of "Sex and The City". You know? The tight-knit group of girlfriends who are super close yet all have different personalities.
The show essentially follows three young girls who work for Scarlet Magazine, a women’s magazine that covers fashion, beauty, health, and sex. The three girls work for this magazine but all have different interests within it. Would y'all believe that this show is actually influenced by the life and career of Joanna Coles? Also *slight spoiler* Scarlet is a stand-in magazine name for (you guessed it) Cosmopolitan, where Coles was editor-in-chief.
This show is what millennials need right now because it touches upon bumps in the road you can encounter as a young woman trying to work in the magazine industry. It shows how you can work your way from the bottom up in a company.
I’m one of those people who also gets heavily invested in a show. So while I binge-watched the first season in a couple of days, I was relieved to find out the show has been renewed for a 2nd and 3rd season.
Without giving too much away, I hope more people take notes from this show and find the inspiration I was able to find to continue to pursue my dreams, no matter how risky it may seem.
