This semester I upgraded to a full sized bed. Yippee! But I have to tell you… after 20 years of fitting juuuust right in a twin, the extra room can make one feel a little lonely. That being said, here are a few reasons why my body pillow has become my best friend:
It never complains.
We’ve all had the age-old argument over who steals whose covers in the middle of the night. Well… not me and my body pillow, I can assure you. It also doesn’t complain about being too hot or canoodled too hard.
It’s always there.
Ready and waiting. After a long day of school, work, and other tiring tasks, my body pillow never fails to offer a warm welcome back into my bed. No more need for “come over and cuddle” texts. Your body pillow already patiently awaits.
It fits just right.
The beautiful thing about spooning with a pillow is that the chances of one’s circulation being cut off dramatically decrease. Waking up to no feeling in my arm has become a thing of the past. It also eliminates the question, “Is this comfortable for you?” because really, all it cares about is your comfort and your comfort only.
It makes for a better night’s sleep.
But really! A body pillow not only supports your head, but your shoulders, core, hips, and legs as well. They can relieve spinal strain and help improve circulation by allowing the muscles to relax more completely. GET THIS! Body pillows can increase a person’s levels of oxytocin, “the love hormone”, by making one feel cuddled and nested in their beds. Oxytocin has a number of positive effects on the human body including reductions in stress, improved digestion, improved sleep, lowered blood pressure, decreases in anxiety and increases in energy, focus, and sensations of calm.
The moral of the story is: next time someone asks to meet my best friend, I’ll just tell them to go buy his or her own for $10 at the nearest superstore.
