Plus size models are revolutionizing “body image.” Everywhere we look, we see these models displaying clothes and lingerie. They inspire the “feel good in your skin” campaign and help many people apply that image to their own lives. The problem? Body images are fighting with each other on two completely different sizes of the spectrum with no in-between. What about those people left out of this body image battle? Where are the size six, the size eight or the size ten models? The idea of not having to be tiny in order to be beautiful is an amazing and inspiring idea (not to shame anyone who is tiny). But there is no inspiration for those who might not fit into the size zeros or plus sizes. Recently “in-betweener” models decided to take a stand. One model quoted:
"Though I'm a few inches shorter, I have almost identical measurements to Bree Warren. I wear a UK size 14. My BMI is healthy, but to many slim people, I am still considered 'too fat.' To the plus-size community, I am not big enough. I have had my body shape described as everything from 'normal' to 'Adele-sized' (for the record, all comparisons to Adele are gratefully accepted). Straddling two sides of the industry, I am what is now being coined an 'in-betweener.'"
This is a breakthrough for people like myself who feel as if there is no one to back up their "not so perfect size." Walking into a store and seeing no sections for "in-betweeners" makes shopping even harder than it should be. It is time for everyone's body image to be noticed, loved and accepted. We should no longer compare each other on these totally opposite ends of the spectrum. All models are beautiful and all people are beautiful no matter what size; it doesn't matter what category they fall under.
