Blind Faith: A Spoken Word

It's not as blind as you think...

Blind Faith

It doesn't mean we just blindly believe
Accept what we are told and never ask for more
All those questions you have
We've asked them before
We've implored
Searched and researched, questioned the lore

Was it really seven days?
Could He the King have made everything that quick then took a break?
Who is to say time wasn't measured another way?

Days could be months, months could be years
I've teared at my hair trying to find a timeline that could have stretched anywhere from an hour to an era

Was time even real?

Can you feel the frustration and disbelief I express?
I confess. Sometimes, I doubted
In times of grief and stress, I had too many inquiries

Can you tell me how you parted the sea?
Where is the Tree of Life lost to Adam and Eve? Are some of the stories just allegories?

What about the ancient tombs in the dirt?
What about bones of early humans unearthed?
Can I make a list and bring it on the Day of Judgement and share my befuddlement?

Was there a great flood?
How much spilled blood?
Why do some live through your acclaim while others die in your name?

I know you gave us free will,
But some use it to force their will or to kill freely
Why don't you intercede?

If you're such a merciful God, where is your mercy when quakes shake apart a city?
Floods drown a town, leave people on the streets
Hungry, weak, falling down to knees with nothing but an empty prayer and bellies

There are agents of the Prince bringing darkness
Where is your light to fight back the night,
The Hell on Earth that shrinks in comparison to the actual Pit but is still pretty real and terrifying?
We are crying out, and it seems that our shouts fall on deaf ears

Do you care?

These are their claims (and our questions), the ones who see the pain and find us who proclaim the Way deluded
Is it true that it's insane to have faith in a book and a name
When the world's going up in flames?

Yet, that's the game
No, it's not a game
It's a plan

Your plan to release your grace
Bring peace to the face of a planet in need of it
And to promise a better place in the end
If only we bring it to our lands

You planned it all
And we accept the call to have faith
Because

It's not ignoring the core things because they contradict the stories

It's not refusing to learn things that may be too new or undo what we are used to

It may say blind but
The idea is not to cover up our eyes
Let things slide

Hide away the unexplained and unexpected
Because it's not about blindly accepting everything and never raising a query
It's praying for wisdom from worry and upset

And accepting that there are things we just can't see
Yet

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
