I am not going to talk about why what Logan Paul did was wrong.
I am not going to talk about why laughing at a dead body is inherently fucked up.
I am not going to talk about why Logan Paul is trash.
Because at this point, it should be common knowledge. This video was not out of character for his personality and questionable moral compass. So why are we even shocked?
Instead, I want to focus on us; how we, as a society, are partially responsible for this video and for Logan Paul’s expanding fame.
Logan Paul would not have uploaded or even made that video if he thought it would not get views regardless of it being negative or positive. He knew it would get a reaction, thus more views, meaning more people are talking about it, which ultimately means more fame and money.
And he knows this would be trending because look at what else is integrated into the pop culture.
The Cash Me Ousside girl blew up overnight because she was a spoiled brat that knows some profanity. She has now released two music videos, been the youngest person to appear on Billboard’s Top 100, and has a reality show in the making.
Our very own president tweets out inflammatory comments just to get attention from the “fake media.” And we fall into it when we focus on his reactionary tweets instead of focusing on the policies his party is trying to quietly push.
Over the years, there has been a growing niche in the Youtube community that’s purely about pranks. Like certain Youtubers go to ghetto areas and say the N-word just to see how the “scary black man” reacts. And they get views.
Logan Paul’s success is directly linked to us or more importantly our views. He is famous because we allow him to be. The more views and subscribers he garners the more likely he is to upload shitty videos like this.
We need to be educated consumers that know and wield the power we have effectively. The only way to ensure we will never again see a video like Logan Paul’s would be to simply unsubscribe from him.
Simply saying what he did was offensive does nothing other than give him more views and more attention.
Unsubscribing from him, however, would hit him where it hurts.
