A Letter To My Future Employer, The Chicago Blackhawks
Megan McCabe

Before I went to Illinois State I would have sworn to anyone that I was going to be a teacher. Well, one third grade teaching internship later and I was at a lost. It wasn't until my family, and specifically, my brother started talking to me about journalism and broadcasting that I really started to discover what I wanted to do.

So to my future employer of the Chicago Blackhawks, I promise I am coming for you.

I am working hard to graduate with Journalism as my major. However, school work is not all I am focused on. With an internship with the Illinois State University Hockey team, I was able to better learn the sport as well as get experience creating game re-caps that have been published on their website.

This isn't just some dumb obsession with the sport either I promise. My brother played hockey ever since I was born and family bonding still involves watching the Hawks. To this day I still remember going to my first game on March 10, 2013. You played the Oilers that day and unfortunately lost.

However, the sound of "Chelsea Dagger" filling the arena when the Hawks did score was unbelievable. I knew then that this was my dream job.

One day I will be working for the Blackhawks, CSN, WGN or the Chicago Tribune and I will be in charge of writing articles about the games. Getting the dirt when a player is injured, following trades, and writing game recaps. This is my dream job. Heading to the locker room to get a statement from the players. Being there for press conferences to find out what is occurring within the organization.

I do not care what anyone else says.

I will accomplish my goal of covering the Hawks, I will be a professional journalist and I will not give up.

To the Chicago Blackhawks look out because I am on my way. This letter is not only for you but also for me. I am solidifying that this is my goal and I will get there. No matter what gets in my way, I will stand right back up to keep pushing to get to you.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
