9 Things Black Women Are Tired Of

Because, girl, I’m just straight up tired…

Man, being black in America is hard. But black women always have it harder in my opinion. Most of the time, I’ve seen it first-hand. Here are 9 different things black women are tired of:

1. People trying to touch their hair.

We worked hard to style our hair, please don’t mess it up. Just because our hair type is different from yours doesn’t mean it gives you permission to touch. Thank you!

2. Make-up companies that don’t have darker shades.

Thank god for Rihanna because she saved us all. If anyone who knew me in 8th grade, I’m sorry if you saw white stuff under my eyes. That’s the “darkest” concealer I owned back then. I looked like I was going THROUGH it man.

3. Advertisements trying to sexualize our bodies.

Have you noticed we’re always half-naked and oiled up? Yeah me too. I’m glad people are starting to realize this problem and some magazine companies are making changes.

4. Being followed at the Beauty Supply store.

Yeah I’m not spending my hard earned money here.

5. #AngryBlackWoman

Any other race can stand up for themselves but a black woman does it and now we’re angry and bitter.

6. “You’re so pretty for a black girl!”

This is not a compliment…It’s just NOT. Say that to yourself again.

7. Cultural appropriation…

Remember the time black women were made fun of their lips and curves, however, the tables have turned and now everyone is paying for lip injections, wearing African-style clothing, wearing hoop earrings (we were once called ghetto for), and their hairstyles?

8. “Ayo shorty in the red jacket! Fine ignore me then you stupid black b****!”

I swear you don’t know how many times I’ve had to deal with this. It’s actually sad at the amount of disrespect we receive.

9. Being underestimated because of the color of their skin...but so what?

You can’t be happy about your success without someone saying, “I never expected you to get good grades” or make six figures. But then again, who cares? You know you worked hard and you did it!

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
