When Thanksgiving comes around, one of my favorite things to do is go Black Friday shopping. This isn't so much for all of the deals that happen, but the adrenaline rush. There is nothing quite like going out on an adventure with my mom and seeing all of the crazy people that camp out overnight just to get that television or expensive jewelry.
My mom and I have stood in lines that were literally around the entire store twice. If you want a real Black Friday experience, then go to Northern Virginia. The lines in all of those stores are insane – especially Potomac Mills. That is if you can find a parking spot.
This has become a thing that my mom and I do and I miss those experiences now that I am away in college. I guess that's one of the reasons that I love the holiday season so much – get to reconnect with that part of myself that is not there during the school year.
While I definitely do like the deals that come with Black Friday, I think that it is kind of insane that some of the sales happen on Thanksgiving Day during the traditional dinner time. I can't imagine something worth losing Thanksgiving dinner with my family over.
I think in general the holidays have become too commercialized. No matter what religion you practice, if any, the holidays should be about spending time with your family. If you are in college, or even if you live far away from your family, this is a great time to catch up and spend some quality time with the ones that you love.
There are too many people who go out on Black Friday hoping to score that perfect present for someone in their family hoping that it will make the "perfect holiday season."
For those people out there who worry about Christmas being perfect, just relax and try to enjoy the craziness. The holiday season doesn't have to stress you out – there will always be things in the store to buy for that special someone for the holidays. Besides, there's always Cyber Monday!
