We all have friends who have helped us through so much that it seems like there is no way to repay them. Then when their birthday comes around you freak out because you have no idea how to encompass how thankful you are for them in a gift. This was me a couple weeks ago when I realized my best friend's birthday was quickly approaching, but then a light bulb came on.

Do you have a Bachelorette-loving-BFF????

I do. She loves "The Bachelorette" almost as much as she loves Oreos (which says a lot). So for her birthday, I made it "Bachelorette" themed. Not like the typical wild night out that comes prior to a wedding but the hit ABC TV reality show!

First off, I texted her saying, "Clear your day tomorrow I'm picking you up at 10am." This text could come across as alarming, but it adds to the excitement and fun without giving anything away.

The next day I showed up at her house with an envelope. If you've seen "The Bachelor" or "Bachelorette," you know of the anticipated "Date Cards." The card said "Brooke, will you help me nail it?" The trick is to give an obvious hint at what you're doing and have them try to figure out where you're going. This card meant we were going to get our nails done.

At our next location, we had one of our guy friends come in and totally surprise Brooke. Keeping with the theme, we had him hand her a rose and say "Brooke, will you accept this rose?" He also handed her the next envelope. This card said, "Brooke, let's freeze this moment." We went and got ice cream! At this location we had one of the guy workers repeat the rose process and hand her her next card.

"Brooke, lets let nature take its course ;)" (This one was mildly creepy but meant that we were going hiking!) We went to our favorite spot and enjoyed being out in the beauty of nature. At this location, we had a "best friend" moment and I was the one to hand her the next rose and card. Cheesy I know, but made for a great memory.

Next card: "Let me make it up to you." This one entailed a makeover! I had just bought new makeup so we tried it out. This one tied into our next event because it was a concert! "Brooke, let's find our love song." A band was performing at a local coffee shop so it was a perfect location to finish out the night. We even got the band to sing happy birthday to her! We ended the night with one last rose from another guy friend and her second favorite thing in the world: Oreos.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
