Netflix. Need I say more? It’s the perfect bae, you can spend all day with it hungover and not get sick of it. It seems so much more tempting the more homework that piles up on Compass. You turn to it in times of sheer boredom and can’t imagine a night in without re-watching your favorite show. You may not agree with my rankings, but too bad, there are a lot of other shows on Netflix, go find one.
1. "Breaking Bad"
Considered one of the best TV series out there, how have you lived without knowing Walter White? You will tear through all five seasons in a few days. Plus, you’ll always wonder what it’s like to cook meth, and maybe your science teacher isn’t who they claim to be.
2. "House of Cards"
Fight me on this one all you want, I don’t care. The premise of the show was rejected by almost every major network until Netflix picked it up. Kevin Spacey is so evil but when he talks in that southern drawl you can’t resist him. It’s like looking into the backwards ways of politics and how everything comes down to manipulating others. Every character on the show is perfectly cast. Watch how Frank Underwood outsmarts everyone around him.
3. "Sons of Anarchy"
Not one of the more popular shows to binge-watch on Netflix but definitely worth the
time. "Sons of Anarchy" is loosely based on the structure of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, focusing on a motorcycle club in California. Charlie Hunnam is amazing as a young man torn between his father’s vision for the club and the club’s desire to pull in more money, which pulls them farther into the world of crime. The show is still airing on FX but you’ll
be able to catch up in two weeks.
4. "Friends"
Hey how you doin’. Not on Netflix yet, but fast approaching. "Friends" is one of the best because it was part of your youth. You saw Chandler and Monica get together, Rachel and Ross finally figuring out what to do (WE WERE ON A BREAK) and, of course, the crucial couch scene where you learned how to pivot. Now we can relive all ten seasons and see why you
need your best friends.
5. "Mad Men"
Don Draper, will you ever get it together? Not an easy show to binge watch, but definitely worthy of your attention. It takes you into the glamorous world of advertising in the 1950s, when protagonist Don Draper struggles with his personal life among the boozing and schmoozing of many women (because he IS that attractive). Also considered a perfectly crafted show, you never know if Don Draper will be able to face his demons, or fail for everyone to see. The set is awesome, the drinks are flowing and you’ll definitely realize Roger Sterling is the man.
Put this list aside for a rainy day, or a day after a long night at Lion. Either way, it’s better than facing homework. HAPPY NETFLIXING!
