For my article this week, I have decided to do something unique. I have altered the lyrics to Billy Joel's Piano Man and created it to relate to the Iowa City bar scene. If this article goes viral, maybe I will make this into a YouTube video.

It's eleven o'clock on a Saturday

The regular crowd of underage students shuffles into the bars

There's a DJ standing above me

Making students crazy and runnin'

I say, "DJ, can you play me Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffett

I'm a really big fan of the song

But it's sad and it's bittersweet he won't play it

Because the DJ only plays the younger man's songs

[Pre-Chorus]

La la la, di da da

La la, di da da da dum

[Chorus]

Play us a song, you're the bar DJ

Play us a song tonight

Well, we're all in the mood to party

And you've got us lit tonight

[Verse 2]

Now the bouncers at the bar are some friends of mine

They let me in with a glance of my fake ID

And they're quick with putting a wristband on my hand

But there's someplace that they'd rather be

They say, "Matt, go have fun tonight, this job is killing me."

As the smile smirks on his face

I tell him,

"Well I'm sure that I could be a frat star

If I could get a bid from a fraternity"

[Pre-Chorus]

La la la, di da da

La la, di da da da dum

[Verse 3]

Now Mitch is an enterprise leadership major

Who never had time to study and parties too much to get good grades

And he's talkin' with Kendrie, who's still on duty as an RA

And probably will be every Saturday for the rest of her college life

And the pretty sorority girl is studying business,

As the frat boys from the frat that is known for having guys who smoke a bunch of weed slowly get stoned

Yes, they're sharing a drink they call brotherhood

But it's a bond of their lone chapter

[Chorus]

Play us a song, you're the bar DJ

Play us a song tonight

Well, we're all in the mood to party

And you've got us lit tonight

[Verse 4]

It's always a pretty busy crowd at an Iowa City bar on a Saturday

And the manager gives us a smile

‘Cause he knows that it's us that provide their income on weekends

As we try to forget about life for a little bit

And the DJ, it seems like he is in charge of running this crazy circus

And his t-shirt smells like beer

And I come up to the bar and put my $10 bill on the counter

And the bartender says, "Man, what do you want to drink here?"

[Pre-Chorus]

La la la, di da da

La la, di da da da dum

[Chorus]

Play us a song, you're the bar DJ

Play us a song tonight

Well, we're all in the mood to party

And you've got us lit tonight

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
