Biking To Your Next Holiday Party

It is no secret that the electric bike is a capable commuter vehicle. In many big cities across the country, people turn to e-bikes to alleviate the stress of morning and evening commutes. Additionally, many savvy individuals use e-bikes to complete light daily chores, like shopping for dinner or picking up dry-cleaning.

With innovative and multitudinous ways people can use their bicycles, it should not come as a surprise that many people are ditching their cars and traveling to holiday parties on their bikes. The pervading questions are:

  1. Do you decorate your bike for the festivities?
  2. How do you stay safe at night and in holiday traffic?

Obviously, you should decorate your bike for the event. The key is decorating safely. Staying safe is the most important thing when considering taking a bicycle to a party instead of a vehicle. Thankfully there are many things you can do to stay safe.

Decorating Your Bike

When decorating your bicycle, you need to consider the type of bike you have and how you can decorate safely. An e-tricycle will obviously give you more options for decorations, from tire lights to garland to a mini tree in the rear basket. A standard two-wheel bike will not provide all the options as a tricycle, but you still have creative options. For instance, you can use bar tape to candy-stripe your cycle, you can use battery-powered fairy lights, or you can look for spoke and handlebar accessories. Finally, you can attach your favorite Bluetooth speaker and blast some holiday classics as you ride.

While decorating your bicycle can be fun, you do not want to do anything that risks your safety. For instance, do not place fairy lights or ribbons anywhere they can get tangled in your pedals, chains, or spokes. When something gets entangled in integral components, it can cause a serious accident.

How To Stay Safe When It's Dark

If riding at night, you want to make sure you are visible. Wear bright clothing. If you can apply reflectors to different areas of your bicycle and yourself. If you have the money, it is best to attach lighting to the best hybrid bike.

You will also want to obey all traffic laws if riding in the street. If there are sidewalks, however, it is often best to ride there unless prohibited. Also, if there are designated bike lanes, ride only in those areas.

Riding at night is always dangerous. The key is to make yourself as visible as possible. If you can, opt for streets that are well-lit rather than dark neighborhoods. While motorists should always be on the lookout for stray cyclists, they can't watch what they can't see, so make it easy for them.

The holidays can be some of the most fun to ride because of all the decorative possibilities. If you would like some help decorating your bike, or if you would like some advice for riding around the holidays, check out your local bike shop and its professionals.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
