I don't ask for a lot in life. Happiness for my family and friends, a sunny warm day appropriate for biking, and — oh that's right! A nice, supportive swimsuit that not only guarantees chest coverage, but also doesn't cost me an arm and a leg.
I know what you're thinking. "There's plenty of cheap, modest swimsuits around! Walmart, for instance!" My dear reader, you are absolutely right. There are plenty of places where one can buy a swimsuit without breaking the bank. However, this is not the case for me and thousands of other women.
Some time ago, I ventured into a mall hoping to leave with three new bras. My first stop was Victoria's Secret. After sizing me and determining I was a 32 F (Thirty-two-inch band, F size cup,) they suggested that I check out Lane Bryant, another store in the mall because they didn't have any bands small enough with that cup size.
When Lane Bryant, a store who specializes in plus-size clothing, learned about my size, they told me that I may want to check out Victoria Secret because they didn't carry any bands small enough for that cup size.
Do you see my dilemma?
I belong to the super secret, rare class of women who have small waists and large busts. In other words, whenever I want to buy a new bra, I have to scour European websites until I find the one that suits me. Finding a bra online, though, is a piece of cake once you compare it to the horrors of finding a swimsuit.
Due to my rare sizing, regular swimsuits are too small and plus size swimsuits are too big. Sure, I could probably fare well buying one size in a bikini top and another in bottoms, but I enjoy rocking out in a one piece. I've thought about it, but I don't think I can sew the top of a one-piece to the bottom of another. I can barely sew!
Second of all, if I did happen to stumble upon the PERFECT swimsuit, it would either be A) immodest, or B) hecka expensive.
Just a few weeks ago, I was looking online for a swimsuit to take with me on my Spring Break trip to Mississippi. The few swimsuits I could find cost as low as $100 and as high as $130.
After screaming in the deep abyss for an hour, I decided that I would simply walk the beaches of Gulfport in my athletic shorts and sports bra.
Why aren't there more options for the ladies in my boat?
Why are swimsuits so dang expensive not just for me, but in general?
I've come to accept the fact that buying both bras and swimsuits will never be a task I can accomplish in stores.
However, if I must venture into the intergalactic web, give me a chance and make swimsuits both supportive and affordable!
Unless the swimsuit is made out of unicorn hair, I'm not going to pay outrageous prices for it.
Give busty gals affordable options. We want cute swimsuits too.
