Why Bid Day Is The Best Day

Bid Day is one of the best days of the year. It’s the day when sorority girls take over Old Main lawn, girls holding onto their bids for dear life sprint over to meet their new sisters, and frat boys come and sit around to watch the scene (which is really weird if you ask me.) It’s a day full of fun with you pledge class, random girls in your new sorority hugging you and acting like your best friend, and taking random pictures with girls who you may have not even said two words to yet. It’s a great day because girls feel like your best friends, even if they are not.

I wish I was closer to more girls in my sorority and it is disappointing that I’m not, so Bid Day is a great day because everyone feels super close. You take lots of pictures and it is a great chance to meet new members. I have been wanting a Little ever since I went through recruitment last year and joined my sorority. This is the day where all the old members scope out the new members to try and find a potential little. I have talked to so many girls that I never talk to in my sorority on Bid Day.

The new members were also extremely excited to be a part of the sorority. I have gotten one of the best hugs ever when a new member ran over to me on Bid Day. It’s just a day when everyone feels happy and nobody wants to stop smiling. New members were meeting their new sisters, in their pledge class and the older members. Everyone was excited because we chose the new members and they chose us as their top sorority. I just remember feeling incredibly happy when I ran over with my bid and feeling the same exact way as I welcomed in new members.

Being on the other end of recruitment last year, I remember how excited I was to get my bid. I remember running over to the girls and hugging every girl that would let me hug her. I fell in love with this sorority from the beginning and I was happy that they wanted me. Now, being a sister and experiencing Bid Day this way, I was overjoyed to see these new members as excited as I was to join such a wonderful organization.

I didn’t think sorority life would be for me. I remember touring colleges and saying how I didn’t want to join a sorority. Now that I am in one, I understand everything. Although I am not super close to any one group of girls in my sorority, I am happy that I am in an organization where I can be sisters with women across the country. I am excited to meet new members and hopefully I can find some of my best friends. I have three years left in this organization (but we’ll be sisters for life.) Bid Day is one of the happiest days because everyone is your friend, everyone is happy, and everyone is excited. The whole premise of Bid Day is to get new members excited about their new organization and although I’ve only experienced two Bid Days, I would say that Bid Day is being done right.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
