Happy New Year, everyone! Usually by this time, I would have a list of all of the things I wish to accomplish in 2018k, but instead, I decided to do something a little different.

In fact, I chucked the entire list of goals I had. Over the past few months, I have suffered a faith crisis, and since then found a relationship with God I didn't know was even possible. Every cliché I've ever heard a Christian speak came true in my life.

Now, I'm not one to trash talk New Year's Resolutuions--I've had one (or several) over the last few years; however, I recently came across a tweet that said, "You don't have the power to mess up God's plan for your life." Woah. Talk about a punch right to the gut. This year, I've decided to compile a list of Bible verses containing encouragement and advice to help survive this roller coaster that I know will be 2018.

Anxiety

"fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10

I constantly struggle with feeling anxious and overwhelmed, as I'm sure a lot of people do. This verse gives me so much encouragement that I am small but I have a Heavenly Father who is capable of BIG things.

Friendship

"A friend loves at all times." Proverbs 17:17

How easy it is for us to get overwhelmed with work and school and life in general. This is just a nice little reminder to love each other always, through everything.

Heartache

"We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies." 2 Corinthians 4:8-10

As both followers of Christ, and people in general, we all suffer heartache--loss, break-ups, homesick, etc. We can be pushed to our limits, but we are never let go.

Depression

"The Lord is near to the broken-hearted and saves the crushed in spirit." Psalms 34:18

Even without hope, in the lowest of our lows, we are never alone.

Anger

"A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." Proverbs 15:1

I have a pretty short temper, and it's hard for me to remember the golden rule. Whether it's work, or tests, professors, friends, significant others, parents, etc., it's easy for our first reaction to mistakes is anger. Our default is usually retribution, a "fight fire with fire" attitude, but how much better off we would be if we chose kindness and patience over anger and rashness.

There are so many other topics I could cover, but I decided to go with things I think a lot of college students tend to struggle with. Reading words on a page or on a computer screen will ever be enough. We can't just read, we have to act. You don't get a job and then not show up. The more we practice what we preach, the better off we all are--all that being said, I hope this New Year is filled with love, laughter, and Christ.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
