An Open Letter To My Best Friend I Moved Away From

I miss being near you every day.

An Open Letter To My Best Friend I Moved Away From
Andrew Branch

It has been five years since I moved away from my hometown and my best friend for college. There have been so many things I have missed while being away from her, and I wish someday we could live in the same town again. This week, I have been having a wonderful week at her house once again, and it almost feels like the old times. Our lives have changed, but our love is all the same. We are both in school, have jobs and different lives, but when we get together, we have a wonderful time. Here is a throwback to the old times when we were at the same school and some of the things I miss.

1. The proximity

We were only a hill away for many years, and we visited each other often because of that. It made for easy sleepover dates and took only a phone call to get each other to visit.

2. Through thick and thin

We shared each other’s pain in the hard times. We knew we could rely on each other. Same goes when we are happy; there is no one better to rejoice together with.

3. Cheap date

We would go to movies, the park, the beach or the mall. Even when we did not have any money, we knew just being together was good enough.

4. The practical jokes

We would prank each other often and tease one another venomously. She would always get under my skin with annoying songs, and I would chase her away from her classrooms with an annoying high-pitched voice. We knew it was done out of love, though.

5. The sleepovers

I have not had a more loving bed hog than when I slept over at my best friend’s house. She, of course, had a queen while I had a twin-sized bed. We had her dog sleep with us as well, which we loved and cherished.

6. The adventure

There was nobody better than her to travel with and explore. We would take each other on family vacations when we had the chance and stay at resorts and swim together. There was no better partner in mischief than her.

7. The secret sharing

There are few who know me as well as my best friend. We could share everything and know we would not be judged. If there was a time I needed anyone, I know she would be there for me.

8. The sisterhood

I do not have any sister’s, but she, I would call my own. I love her too much to let her go.

Even though times have changed, and we lead our own lives, I know—even still—we will be there for each other. We still call each other up, and I would always be there at a moment’s notice. In the worst and best of times, there is no one I prefer at my side in life. She is my soul sister in the best of ways, and I wouldn’t have her any other way.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
