Whenever we go to concerts, we pay for the tickets and invest our time to get a live experience, whether it be our favorite band performing their newest single or our favorite singers and dancers performing their greatest acts. However, with the newest technology and software being developed, the idea of music and concerts has been drastically transformed.
One specific new technology is called Hatsune Miku, who is a vocaloid software developed in Japan that is integrated with the new line of vocal characters and anime. Although this is not that new of a technology, being developed years ago, it still imposes a great view of the future of music and the impact that technology has. There are many concerts with Hatsune Miku performing on the digital screen while the public goes crazy over her singing. Now, this raises the question as to what this means for live artists and performers.
Hatsune Miku has the ability to perform effortlessly with perfect movements and a perfect and infinite vocal range in that she is a perfected software. Since humans always make mistakes, no performer or singer is perfect with their abilities to dance or sing, but these vocaloid softwares make exactly no mistake. I believe that there are both benefits and harms to this new intersection of technology and music.
This completely changes the way people react to going to concerts or taking the time and money to attend live concerts. If these vocaloid softwares who make no mistakes and can sing and dance perfectly and effortlessly end up taking over the whole music and concert scene, then it imposes a huge threat to the careers of live performers and the public who live to see live performances. In my opinion, I will always be on the side for live performances by singers and dancers that I want to see in person. No matter how perfect a performer or singer can sing or dance, these new vocaloid softwares can never replace the live experience that comes with attending a live concert with celebrity singers and dancers. What I pay for when going to a concert is seeing the person I want to see in person and watching he or she perform, even with mistakes.
This new vocaloid technology that has become extremely popular in Japan and possibly overseas has proven to be a great advance in the field of technology and software. However, these technologies will never be able to replace the live experience that comes with attending live concerts and music shows.
