At some point in your life, you have probably worked in some sort of service industry.
You have seen the good, the bad, the ugly, and the straight-up horrifying. The saying, "you don't know stupid until you've worked in the restaurant," honestly couldn't be truer BUT have you hear about how rude or how amazing people can be?
1. The Entitled Customer
"We have a lady who comes into our restaurant about once every couple of weeks and thinks that she deserves the world for staying loyal to us like that and so sometimes we will give her a drink on the house or a free appetizer but it has gotten to the point where if she doesn't get it, she YELLS at her server to get the manager and to treat her with more respect. I honestly think she thinks that she is royalty."
2. The Horrific Boss
"One time, I was running a 101* fever and all around felt like I was dying. I called in to say I couldn’t come into work and they told me that was too bad because I was scheduled to close and no one else was available. They made me come in any way. "
3. The Creeps
"The guy I nannied for tried to sleep with me on my last day."
4. The Straight-up ASSHOLE
"I was working in a movie theater, and I spent an hour being screamed at by this older couple because on Fridays the matinee prices went up after noon. The woman was so upset by this; she kept demanding to speak to a manager, so I got one up to deal with her, and they told her exactly what I had been saying... so she left and came back with our brochure that had our prices listed on it and threw it at me demanding the cheaper tickets because the paper says they’re cheaper... It didn’t. She left swearing I was an idiot and they’d never be back."
5. The Co-Worker from HELL
"I worked with this one girl who was on a mission to get everybody fired because "nobody liked her" even though we all invited her to do multiple things with us outside of work. She got a manager fired for "racist comments" and then transferred because she felt "personally attacked" because nobody would talk to her after. It was everybody's favorite manager."
6. The Ones Who Want Everything for Free
"So with kid's meals at the restaurant you get a free SMALL drink if you are a CHILD. A lady got in my face and yelled at me one time because we didn't, 1. give her a free drink and 2. when we offered her one it wasn't large. The only people who got free large drinks were the dine-in patrons. Then she wanted free bread because "I was rude" to her and she needed to be compensated for it."
7. The Regulars
"I have worked in the same restaurant for four years and I know exactly when people are coming in, what they are going to get, and without fail every time they are all surprised that I remember everything. They put a smile on my face when I see them and one even invited me to their wedding."
8. The Good Tippers
"Unfortunately, we live in a society where it is expected to tip your wait staff, so yes servers and those alike get a little angry when they get stiffed by a table, but the ones who know what you are going through make it all the better. I have a family that comes and sit with me for every holiday/event that they celebrate. The first time they sat with me, at the end of their visit, they asked me to pick a number between 1-10; I picked 10. On their bill that was only $35.00, they left me $100.00. They didn't know what was going on in my life at that point in time, but let's just say I REALLY needed that money and had been stiffed a few times that night. I know not everybody can leave a tip like that but it's just nice to have people that take care of you."
9. The Appreciative Ones
"I once had to help a lady set up a catering order for her husband's funeral and I made sure that she got everything she possibly could for the amount of money that she could spend. We provided her with some extras so that her and her family would have enough left over so that they wouldn't have to worry about cooking for a couple of days and in her hardship she left me with $200.00 and told me that she found it in her husbands truck that she was driving and knew it was a sign from him for her to take care of those who had taken care of her. The next time she came back she couldn't stop thanking us for everything and has used us for all of her caterings since."
10. The Funny Ones
"I work at a hair salon and this little old lady comes in every couple of weeks to get her hair colored and every time that she comes in she has a short standup show ready for us. She is always our first customer and we always start the day with lots of belly-laughs when we see her."
