On a random Wednesday evening my friend and I bought a box of blue hair dye and set up my bathroom exactly like a hair salon. Cautiously, we placed old beach towels to cover the tile floor and paper towels around the sink to soak up all the hair color. We had scoured the Internet for the perfect “Pinterest Worthy” hairstyles and snapped on a pair of plastic gloves. We ended the evening with some strange blue hair streaks, a sink with a slight blue tint to it and a fun new hairstyle. Whether you are into dying your hair a funky color or just wearing your hair natural, here are few great ways to sweep it out of your face and get you looking on point for the hot summer days.

1. Funky Ponytail.

“I don’t sweat; I sparkle.” Whoever said that was either a liar or Edward Cullen, because during the summer when the temperature reaches the upper 90s, there’s no fooling anyone, that is definitely sweat. But no fear just pull-up your locks and tuck them neatly back into a cute up-do with a little attitude.

2. The Alternate Messy Bun.

If you’re rocking that second day hair and just do not have the time to do a fancy hairstyle, why not give your trusty messy bun a face lift. Add a little extra French braid going up the back to change the entire style and a little flare.

3. The Braids.

Give your old headbands a new look! Forget about the indents the plastic bands left behind your ears! Swap them out for a fun summer look made from your own hair! Take two braids from the side of your head to make the perfect delicate headband.

4. Twin Braids.

It’s the perfect time of year to try out a hairstyle you might not have worn since grade school! The French braids are back! The twin braids down the back of your head is a great way to spend summer and trying new things!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
