With the beginning of fall and an avalanche of midterms, projects, and papers, it’s time to hit the books. It’s important to have a study spot that works for you, because no two studiers are alike. Some people prefer noisy, some prefer silence, and some prefer something in between. Whether you need plenty of hustle and bustle to focus or not, there’s a perfect place to study for you on campus!Â
1. The Clough: The Clough is a great spot to study for those of you who like background noise and lots of people. There is a steady stream of students moving through it at all times for classes, meetings, and projects. If it gets too noisy or you need a spot to practice your presentation, you can easily reserve one of the breakout rooms for a couple hours. Not to mention, the vending machines are fully stocked with snacks, ice cream, soda, and coffee, and the Starbucks gives away free treats at closing.Â
2. The First and Second Floors in the Library: This spot is great for those of you who like a quiet murmur in the background. The first floor of the library has computers and printers for all those papers that need printing, and a new Highland Bakery Express till 10 pm for when you get the late night munchies. The second floor has lots of great study tables and white boards for when you want to group study. Make sure to also check out area behind the Highland Bakery express for plenty of individual study spots with tons of outlets for charging and white boards for scribbling.Â
3. The Third and Fourth Floors of the Library: These are great for those who need complete silence. There’s no talking allowed and a sign to silence your cellphones and other devices when you come in. There are lots of tables and individual study cubicles and desks for those nights when you need to hunker down and get to work. Not to mention, there’s a great view of the skyline on the West side.Â
4.The Highland Bakery: This is for those trendy coffee shop studiers. The Highland Bakery behind Tech tower is a great place for meetings or for those who want to study at a prime coffee location that’s not as busy as the Clough Starbucks. The baked goods and coffee are to die for, and the fun, well-lit atmosphere had plenty of places to set up your laptop and get to work.Â
5. The Student Center: The Student Center has printing, school supplies, plenty of food to last you the long hours. Tech Rec , Under the Couch and Paper and Clay are also there for when you want a fun, refreshing study break. This spot is definitely on the noisier side due to all the foot traffic through it, but its resources and numerous armchairs are hard to beat.Â
6. Klaus: Do you like quiet, spacious study spots? Than Klaus is the perfect place for you! The modern building has countless tables and booths, yet remains very quiet even in the middle of the day.Â
7.Your Major’s Building: Whether you’re a business student or an environmental engineer, your building has several quieter spots to study. Some, like the Environmental Engineering building, keep classrooms open for group study sessions and projects. The Business school has couches, meeting rooms, and computer rooms. The Ford building has countless rooms that can be used after hours. Most of these buildings can only be accessed by Buzzcards owned by that school’s students, but if you or a friend want to you can bring students from other majors in for a late night study party.Â
8. Your Dorm Room: For those of you who love studying in your sweats under a pile of blankets, this is the spot for you. You can make it noisy or loud, and you can study in a desk, on a couch, or in your bed. Most dorms also have a common area with tables and outlets if you would rather not study in your room but don’t want to change out of your jammies.Â
There are many more spots to study on campus that aren’t on this list. Keep your eyes and ears open for a place that you feel most comfortable and can get the most work done. Don’t be afraid to mix up your study spot, either. Studies show that changing up your study place can actually help with information retention. Good luck and study hard this week!
