Let’s be honest, no one has time to actually cook. Within the past year, I have forced myself to cook my meals and honestly I hate/love it. I feel like by cooking I burn off the calories I am about to eat! But seriously, here are some of my favorite snacks that are healthy and will actually fill you up!
**Try to drink an entire cup of water before and after each meal and it will trick your body into thinking it’s full!**
1. Avocado and balsamic:
This is my favorite, especially when I don't have time to eat! My roommate from freshman year showed me this and changed my life!
2. Fruits!!!!
I am biased, but this is the best one yet! Just get as many fruits as you like (and maybe a couple of almonds, too) and enjoy!
3. Avocado Toast
This is basic, but so am I so it's okay! Add a little olive oil so it's not as dry! And try it on an everything bagel, too! Yummmmmm!
4. Peanut Butter on Banana
I saw this on Insta somewhere and wanted to try it at once! So you cut your banana vertically so that they are two halves:
Then you add peanut butter, or cookie butter, and add small berries and granola!
Delicious!
5. Avocado Vegan Pizza
I tried to be vegan for a quarter–and it was my birthday that quarter, so I had a lot of weak moments. I went to Whole Foods and bought a pizza crust and vegan cheese, and made my own little pizza. I ate the whole thing and I am not ashamed!
6. Apple Chips
The first time I had these was two weeks ago at the DZ house! They are so good, it's actually concerning. They are not dry, but crispy!!!!
7. Peanut Butter and Celery
I had these this summer for the first time, and if you crave something sweeter, put on some cookie butter from Trader Joe's instead!
8. Cottage Cheese and Peaches
Honestly, cottage cheese with any fruit is soooo good!
9. Peanut Butter and Banana on Half a Bread (or cookie butter and bagel)
Does not matter what time it is, I could have this for breakfast or lunch. Sprinkle a little bit of honey and you're good to get your day going!
10. Strawberry Jam, Cheese, and Spinach on Half a Bagel
I don't have a picture of this. (I KNOW, I AM THE WORST!) I got this idea from Einstein's Bros. When I was in high school, my sister and I would go there every day. We were obsessed with this sandwich, right up until they stopped making it. Get a bagel, add cheese, and melt it in the microwave. Then add strawberry jam and spinach to the other half. You're welcome! You can add ham if you're a meat lover!
11. Cuties
Honestly, just grab like five and you're set!
12. Sweet Potato Chips
Aldi is a German company that sells super cheap food! They have their own brands and it's insane what you can get in there for a few bucks, especially since living in Chicago is starting to add up.
13. Chia Seed on Water
I know it looks super weird, but it's good I promise! My friend taught me this trick because I was running low on funds and I'm always hungry. You add chia seeds to water and a little flavor of your choice, and this drink will trick your body into thinking is full! It's a great way to cut calories and not die!
14. Cooked Broccoli and Cashews
I don't really remember when I cooked this, or how I craved this, but I love it! I was probably hungry and only had cashews and broccoli to be honest. You just throw some butter in a pan, add some broccoli and cashews, add salt and pepper, leave for 15 minutes, and you're set!
15. Pretzel Chips and Hummus
This is my favorite snack! I studied abroad in Jordan my sophomore year, and became obsessed with hummus! Sadly, Middle Eastern hummus is nowhere near the same as American hummus, but I'm over it.
16. Ramen Noodles with Cheese and Egg
One day I was really hungry and my friend came over and made me Ramen. She's half Asian, so she knew what she was doing. I already thought Ramen was good, but when she added cheese and egg it felt like a gourmet meal!
17. Baked Apples with Cinnamon
Funny story: A 6-year-old taught me this recipe. The girl I babysit is six years old and went to cooking camp last summer. Basically, her resume is better than mine. She started baking while I supervised her. She cut some apples, threw on some cinnamon, and I started eating! (You bake them at 450F for about 15 minutes!)
18. Sautéed Veggies
I don't really know the concept of sautéed... I just added some soy sauce to vegetables and called it a day. I was so hungry I needed food now!
19. Maria's Bowl
Someone already probably made this to be honest. Basically you add spinach, avocado, baked sweet potatoes with honey, chickpeas and an egg! Don't forget your condiments!
