We live in a world were everyone wants to get ahead. What's next, what's new, what does the future hold, that's what we look forward to. It can be truly wonderful to be focused on succeeding. We make progress, but at the same time, we crush ourselves. We want more because what we are doing isn't enough. When we get what we wanted in the first place but we don't take the time to be proud of ourselves. It's on the next and better task.
I find myself doing this all the time, not feeling good enough until I reach my next goal. But by the time I get there, I'm already worried about my next step. And don't get me started on when something doesn't go as planned. I feel like I'm back where I've begun and that I'm not trying hard enough.
It's easy to compare yourself to the people around you. Thinking thoughts like "look how well they are doing" and wanting to be that way. Be that as it may, we don't see what's behind closed doors. That person probably worked tirelessly with some failures to get where they are. We solely see the success story. Comparing yourself won't make you feel any better. You're probably making great strides you don't even see yet. People might even be comparing them-self to you.
Making progress on any task or any life moment is possible, valuable and important. You can better yourself and make tremendous marks. However, you are one person. Making these marks takes time and effort. Making these marks deserves celebration and a feeling of accomplishment. And most of all, making these marks takes failure and some confusion. With out these moments of "oh my god everything is ruined" we wouldn't be able to appreciate finally reaching the end. And if it's not meant to be, then it's even better to find out we can move onto more important tasks.
We live in a world were everyone want's to get ahead. You may not see it now, but you are making progress. Just because it's not as fast as the people around you, doesn't mean it's not progress. It doesn't make it a less valuable, so keep going. Your goal is right around the corner. When you get there, pat yourself on the back and be happy, you really deserve it.
