As my freshman year at the University of Kentucky comes to a close, I have been reflecting on all the things I have done and, more particularly, all the fun events I’ve attended.
From sports games to movie nights, it seems like there is an event going on every day. Even if I didn’t really know what they were, I tried to attend as many events as I could.
As a result, I have had a great freshman year and created some awesome memories, especially at these ten events.
1. Basketball games
When people think of UK, they think of basketball. Going to at least one of these games is a must.
2. Football gamesWhat is UK without Caturdays? Tailgate and watch football with some friends.
3. Crunch brunch
Right before finals in December, Student Activities Board gives you free breakfast, t-shirts, games, and massages. Take a study break and have some fun.
4. Carnival
Right before finals in April, Student Activities Board provides a carnival with free rides, carnival food, games, t-shirts, and more. It reminded me of going to the fair at home, but without spending money.
5. Goat yoga
What is more relaxing than doing yoga while adorable goats climb on you? Trick question, nothing.
6. DanceBlue
Dance For The Kids! It’s hands-down the best 24 hours of the year.
7. Greek Sing
Frats and srats spend weeks (and in some cases months) preparing dances for this. Even if you’re not Greek, you can go and watch some amazing, and some hilarious, dancing.
8. Holi
Student Activities Board and Indian Student Association partnered to put on Holi, an Indian Festival of Colors. It was a great event filled with free t-shirts, Indian food, henna tattoos, and a color war.
9. K Week
So many events happen during this week from LexMart to Big Blue U to We Are UK. How much free food, trinkets, and t-shirts can you collect?
10. Events around Lexington
If there’s not something happening on-campus that interests you, look off-campus. From concerts to professional bull riding, there will be something for you.
There’s always something to do at the University of Kentucky. You just have to go to it — get out of your comfort zone and go to something new with your friends. You’ll create great memories that will last a lifetime, and get sooo much free stuff.
