As Far As Dads Go, You’re The Best

Happy Father's Day from your favorite daughter.

As Far As Dads Go, You’re The Best
Zoe Johnson

Mother's Day has always been kind of hard for me, I lost my mom to cancer when I was five years old. So it has always been difficult to see everyone celebrating their moms when I just couldn't relate. Father's Day, on the other hand, has always made me so happy. I am lucky enough to have an amazing dad who has been there for me no matter what my entire life. He has sometimes had to fill the role of both mom and dad and that is never easy for any parent. But I have no idea what I'd do without my dad and I want him to know how much I truly appreciate him.

Thank you for painting my teeny tiny nails when I was little, you always managed to get the nail polish on my nails and not on the skin around them.

Thank you for doing my hair every day when I was little, and making fun of my collection of hair bows and flowers once I got older.

Thank you for letting me hang out with my friends, even though sometimes I know you'd rather I hang out with you.

Thank you for buying me a car, I know I complain that it's actually a small cruise ship and kinda janky but I really do appreciate it.

Thank you for helping me pay for college and for planning ahead. I know you think I don't understand some of the sacrifices you made, but I do and I wouldn't be where I am without you.

Thank you for dragging me around the country to barbecue when I was younger, I know I complained sometimes but I got to see a lot of the country and I'm very thankful.

Thank you for always wanting to get a Slurpee from 7-Eleven, I think we've tried all the flavors they have now.

Thank you for going on walks and hiking with me all the time when I was younger, I loved walking around enjoying nature with you.

Thank you for tricking my sister and I and surprising us with most of the pets we've ever had, they're our very best friends.

Thank you for teaching me to stick up for myself, I know I deserve to be treated better.

Thank you for taking work off when you could to come see things I did in school, like plays and award ceremonies, it meant everything that you were there.

Thank you for teaching me how to be a good person, I know you and I hold grudges, but we always do the right thing in the end.

I honestly have the best dad in the world and he's one of my best friends. I'm sure I annoy him when I spend all my money on concert tickets or don't listen to his advice but I know I'm his fave and he's mine. If you're lucky enough to still have your dad in your life, call him or go see him this Father's Day; I know it's a Hallmark holiday and doesn't really mean much in the grand scheme of things, but I know it will mean the world if you let your dad know you're thinking about him.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
