For Christmas, my family and I received a gift from my aunt; a Himalayan salt lamp. I knew a little bit about the effects and benefits of them, but not to the extent of when I researched them. They have been a trend in households for quite some time, and here are just a few benefits that Himalayan salt lamps provide you.

1. Reduces stress and improves mood/depression.

Due to the release of negative air ions in salt lamps, it helps provide a calm and stress-free environment, improving your mood, as well as depression.

2. Helps you sleep.

In an environment with overexposure to positive ions, it reduces oxygen and blood supply, whereas, with a salt lamp, there is more exposure to negative ions, helping oxygen and blood flow increase, helping you sleep. I stand by this one since having the lamp in our living room I tend to get sleepy around it.

3. Purifies the air.

Much like how salt in the ocean helps purify the air, salt lamps almost help suck out water vapor in the air, purifying it.

4. Helps clear sinuses and allergies.

Like mentioned before, the salt lamp helps suck up water vapor in the air, but also things that clog up sinuses and cause allergies, such as dust, pollen, mold, human and pet dander.

5. Gives you energy.

Since positive ions tend to drain you, having a salt lamp with negative ions helps restore your energy.

6. Improve your breathing.

According to criticalcactus.com, studies have shown that negative ions help the cilia in your nose have better activity, allowing you to breathe easier by having a salt lamp.

These are just a handful of benefits that these lamps can do, and I highly encourage you to get one if you have any problems that it could fix listed above. They're also great to look at too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
