Growing up in a running family, I used to think the only form of "real" exercise was to go for a run. As I grew up and learned to not love running as much as everyone else in my family, I realized that there are many more beneficial types of exercises. Although going on a run is always a good way to get a quick form of exercise, I have found it is not the only way. Going to workout classes provides you with a variety of ways to get exercise and comes with some great benefits.

1. Cross training improves strength and minimizes injury.

Doing all different types of exercises like spinning, barre, weight lifting, running, swimming, etc. will not only strengthen all different types of muscles but also minimizes the risk of injuring your body that you have from doing one form of exercise all the time.

2. An instructor can push you farther than you ever thought you could go.

When an instructor is staring you down, building you up with harsh words, you no longer need that rest, or you may just be too scared to take a rest. Either way, you keep moving and become stronger.

3. The music brings up your endurance.

When there is good music blasting throughout the room, you are able to concentrate on the beat and not focus on how tired you are.

4. The weather will never stop you.

Whether it is -10 degrees or 100 degrees outside, you can always make it to your workout class where you are protected from the freezing cold or heat from outside.

5. Personalized coaching.

You are able to see what you may be doing wrong, or get that boost of confidence from doing a great job.

6. The opportunity to meet new people.

When you become a regular at workout classes, you start to recognize familiar faces. It gives you a chance to create another community outside of your work and school friends.

7. There is always variety.

With different instructors and classes, you get different types of workout classes so you never become bored.

Workout classes should never feel intimidating because you can always go at your own pace and push yourself when you choose to. After doing a variety of different exercises, you will see improvement in your body strength very quickly.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
