On November 6, 2012, Donald Trump tweeted: "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive."
Well, Mr. President, I would argue that your views on global warming have changed and that perhaps you care about the environment a little bit, but you tweeted again on October 19, 2015, and said: "It's really cold outside, they are calling it a major freeze, weeks ahead of normal. Man, we could use a big fat dose of global warming!" You then ran your presidential campaign against the environment in 2016.
Apparently, you (and a good percentage of our country) think that the term "climate change" is interchangeable with the term "global warming," which is the gradual climb of the average temperature of the world. However, as we have now all seen firsthand, climate change is much more than the threat of year-round summer. On Monday, September 4th, forests of Oregon and Washington burst into flames. For the past three months, the state of Montana has seen countless fires running up and down the entire length of the state --
The entire country watched Texas get pummeled by Hurricane Harvey, which hit land on August 25th and caused destruction until September 2nd. Mexico was hit by an 8.0 magnitude earthquake, resulting in tsunami waves to hit the coast.
The entire state of Texas in under water, Oregon, Montana and California are all up in flames, and now Hurricane Irma has caused billions of dollars worth of damage in Cuba, Barbuda, Antigua, the Florida Keys, and many more. And yet you have the nerve to still deny the existence of climate change? No, Mr. Trump, it isn't a hoax. Perhaps you should educate yourself on the topic before making radical claims.
Thousands of people have lost their homes, animals, family, and lives. For the sake of the American population, do your research. Look at the numbers. Do something. You claim to have witnessed the devastation of Texas, yet reporters and people from your team spoke out saying otherwise. You are supposed to be helping our country through such a devastating time, yet you're still calling climate change a "hoax" and "fake." If you would look out your window, I'm sure you'd see otherwise.
Billions of dollars worth of damage has been done to our country in a mere couple of weeks. Imagine what would happen if we continued on this path. We, the people, need someone who believes in science and in saving our world before we completely destroy it. If we do not fix what we are currently destroying, these natural disasters will only be the beginning. Future disasters will cost us money, energy, and, most importantly, American lives. Neglecting that makes America anything but great.
Oh, and by the way, Mr. Trump: anyone with a decent IQ would do the math and realize that climate change is, in fact, real. Maybe next time, though.
