As a woman in a career field that is predominantly staffed with men, sometimes things don't go exactly how you want it to. Somedays are incredibly fun and you wouldn't want to trade your work family for the world. While some days you want to yell and bop them each on the head for whatever they did to annoy you this time. Whichever way it is, every day is an adventure.

Sometimes you are invisible.

Whether it be while playing ultimate frisbee or working on an assignment at work, it's like you don't even exist. No matter how fast you run down the field, yell I'm open a million times, or ask what you can do to help you pretty much aren't even there solely based on the fact that you don't have the same body parts.

You hear things you would rather not hear... ever.

Boys will be boys and men will be men. They say things about women, themselves and insanely grotesque things that you couldn't forget even if you tried. I'm not sure if it is just that they don't care if you hear them or the phenomenon mentioned above, but it scars you for life.

You are one of the guys.

Working with a bunch of men has its perks. You can be included in their fun and inside jokes. Your days will be full of laughter, both at them and with them.

You quite possibly will be eye candy.

Most guys you work with will be really cool. Everything will be great and fun...Until one of them makes a move on you. Then it gets awkward no matter how you handle it. Thanks man, thanks.

Or you could be surrounded by big brothers.

Often times, being one of few women in the workplace, at least a few of the guys will take you under their wing. They will teach you, protect you, and even treat you like part of their family.

You have to work ten times harder to prove your worth.

As a woman, you often get underestimated and looked over simply because you are female. You have to push yourself and never slack off in order to even be considered a part of the group. To get any type of recognition you have to fight with everything you've got to show them that just because you are a girl doesn't mean that you can't do the job as well or even better than them.

Either way, your hard work is fulfilling and makes you a better person. It might be difficult and annoying at times, but the almost always idiotic and comical adventures of your work day will give you memories of a lifetime. Keep working hard to prove your worth, paving the way for the women to come after you.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
