Everyone thinks being the "only child" is being a spoiled brat. Well, I can tell you that stereotype is actually wrong. Of course, there are the ones who are but not every Only child is one. Every time I tell someone I'm the only child, they always pause and just look at me and go, "Oh, so your one of THOSE types of people?"
No, I'm not. Being the only child has been a privilege in so many ways. My parents and I are very close, that many families do not have.
My parents always include me in every celebration dinner they have, which always means we get to have a really good dinner! Yes, when I was little I wanted a sibling, but I'm quite glad I didn't get one because I don't think I would have been so close to my parents like I am. You start to become more mature as being the only child at a very young age since you always are with your parents and their friends. Being an only child may not prepare you for your first college roommate but you learn how to live with it very soon.
Also being the only child means you can get closer to your cousins who sometimes can start being your older siblings. Which is great! You may not like being the only child when you're younger, but as you become older you start to love it!
