I've always been a huge advocate for going for your dreams as soon as you can outline what you want. Life is way too short to sit around and wait for things to happen; only you can make them happen.
So if you haven't noticed by now, I really like to apply my articles to my own life. I guess I'm maybe hoping I can put this in perspective for some of you.
In high school, I always wanted to be something else. I had friends, but I only had one best friend, and I never really was involved in school after I quit volleyball. I went to class to make a grade and that was the sole purpose of my being.
For some people, this is the dream. Go to school, show up and make the grade. However, this isn't what I wanted for my life. I wanted to have lots of close friends, to always be out doing something, and to constantly have my life filled with positive people around me who knew me and loved me.
I never really achieved this until college. In college, I joined a sorority (DPhiE for the win). I started getting involved, and I cannot stress enough how important this is.
School is so much more fun when you go to campus and you see familiar faces. Being involved in school sounds lame in high school sometimes, but when you go to college it is so much fun to be involved. Filling your schedule with events sounds stressful, but when you have a full planner full of events that you enjoy doing, then it is a fun time.
If you were one of those people in high school who thought it was uncool to be involved (@myself), just know that when you go to college, being involved is the cool thing to do.
