The Dating Game: Struggles of a "Bigger Woman"

Dating is something that is a normal part of life. You get your heart broken a few times, but still allow yourself to give your heart away multiple times until you find that right person. Dating isn’t easy, but being a bigger girl while dating has its challenges.

Meeting someone that you wish to pursue is scary. Appearance is the first thing they see. What are they going to think about you simply because you have more weight than another girl? You constantly put yourself down because you think you’ll be unwanted just for being bigger.

Someone decides to give you a chance and you two go on a date. He wants to take you to dinner. What do you eat? Should you eat the steak meal you normally eat there or do you opt for a salad? Honey, eat what you eat. If he cannot accept that, he isn’t the one.

You get past the dinner date and you make it official. He gives you the cliché article of clothing, which you probably asked for yourself. Suddenly you’re having a mini panic attack wondering if you’re going to fit into it, because he is noticeably smaller than you are. If you cant fit it, keep it anyways! You can be proud to have it and just not wear it. They probably wont notice either way.

Pictures. You want to take pictures beside them but you’re afraid you’re going to look like a monster compared to their tiny frame. You look just as beautiful standing next to them as you do alone. Take the picture and cherish it.

Girls, if you find yourself feeling this way in any of these situations or more, remember that you are absolutely beautiful no matter your size. Someone will absolutely love and adore you - don’t settle for anything less. It is hard to want to be yourself in these situations, but you should be. Have fun dating, but don’t forget to love yourself. Loving yourself is the key to others loving you.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
