To be “born again” is to have a second birth; it is having the spirit of Jesus Christ in you. The first birth is when you are physically born into the world. When Adam and Eve sinned, humans became spiritually dead by being born with a sin nature and it separated us from God. Consequently, sin and death entered the world.

“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” 1st Peter 1:23

Being born again means realizing you are a sinner and believing that Jesus is the Savior, who died and raised from the dead three days later. Jesus was perfect and once one is born again His (Jesus) righteousness is imputed onto the born-again believer who believes the gospel without adding works of self-righteousness.

“But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justified the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works.” Romans 4:5-6

Jesus came down from heaven to save sinners, which is what we all are. We just all sin in different ways. To be born-again means you don’t have to work to obtain salvation. To be born twice means to receive salvation as a gift; it is not by any means something one earns on one's own merit.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

The ten commandments are the law. The commandments do help us lead a good life. Nevertheless, the main purpose of the ten commandments is to take a look in the mirror by showing our reflection of how truly sinful we are. The commandments main purpose is to lead sinners to come to repentance by faith in Jesus.

“Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.” Galatians 3:24-25

What does it mean to repent? When people think of the word “repent,” most people think of phrases: “to turn from your sins” or “to turn over a new leaf.” The word repent in the Bible derives from the Greek word, metanoia, which means “a change of mind.” When Jesus says to repent, He means a change of mind of one’s unbelief.

“And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” Mark 1:15

All in all, being a born-again Christian is not going to church every Sunday. Being born twice is not a religion. Being born again is all about trust: acknowledging our sins, trusting in God, and trusting in the will of God. The prophecies of the Old Testament all the way to the New Testament leads to Jesus being the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. My Savior is also my best friend. Love and the promises Jesus made, is what being born twice is all about.

“There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” John 3:1-7

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
