What It's Like Being A Highly Sensitive Person

I am a highly sensitive person.

I have been this way for as long as I can possibly remember, dating back to at least my early elementary school days. I like to think of being highly sensitive as both a blessing and a curse, and it affects my life in various ways. For me, it is important that other people understand how I am affected.

A big way my high sensitivity affects me is that it makes me produce a more heightened reaction to stimuli because all of my senses are operating on overdrive and experience things more intensely.

This means that I feel uncomfortable when I am in a loud environment, in a large public crowd, in a room when multiple people are talking at once, and when exposed to bright lights or certain strong scents.

This also means that I feel pain easily. Sometimes this also means that I am easily startled.

The biggest way my increased sensitivity affects me is that I feel all emotions deeply and intensely. This looks like a lot of different things.

This makes me a crier. If I'm happy, I cry. If I'm sad, I cry. If I'm excited, I cry. I cry at news stories. I cry at all of the Netflix shows I watch. If I experience any extreme emotion, there's a strong chance that I will just start crying.

I'm a extremely empathetic. I feel others' discomfort. I feel their joy. I feel their pain. I feel for everybody, especially if they're someone I care about deeply.

I have difficulty letting go of things. I beat myself up easily. I am terrified of rejection. I take things personally. I'm awkward and self-conscious. I overreact.

Although high sensitivity is difficult, it's not all bad.

I have a huge heart. I am a great listener. I am enthusiastic and creative. I'm intuitive and imaginative. I can create really magical things when given the chance. I am authentic.

Sometimes it takes a little bit more strength for me to be a functioning member of society, but the most important thing for you to remember is that I'm trying.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
