Bees Are Dying And Our Planet Needs Them

You have probably been hearing a lot over the last few months about our bees disappearing from the planet. You may think, "oh well, it's just a small insect that doesn't do much". Think again. Without bees many of the foods we eat would be gone, many of our world's other animals would have no food, and much of the planet would be dull and colorless.

Here are some ways bees are beneficial and essential to our planet...

1. Bees make honey

Seems obvious enough. Yet, think about how bland and even non existent so many foods would be without honey. Honey is also one of the only food sources that stays fresh forever.

2. Bees give us Fruits

Without the pollination from bees, many fruit plants would not grow. Bees contribute to about half the food on our plate at mealtime.

3. Bees give us Vegetables

Just like fruit, bees pollinate many of our common vegetables. This past year, many crops and gardens failed miserably. Perhaps this was from a loss of the bees.

4. Bees make the planet beautiful

Without bees, so many colorful flowers and trees would die. The beautiful scenery of mountains with purple lavenders and red roses would be gone without our bee friends.

5. Bees produce almonds

Without almonds, many cereals and baked treats would be gone. In addition, cows usually eat ground up almonds, so they would die out and we would have no more milk too.

6. No cows, no ice cream

If the cows die out, most of our sweets would be gone as well. No cake, no pudding, no cookies, no ice cream. No bees means no cows.

7. Bees give honeybee farmers a job and keep our economy flowing

Without bees, millions of people who work with bees, honey, and even regular farmers would be without a job.

8. Many animals depend on bees for survival

Thousands of animals are plant eaters and thousands eat pollinated foods. Without plants, many of our beautiful creatures such as butterflies, bats, frogs, raccoons, birds and more, all depend on bees to survive.

In the end, bees are significant to the planet and without them, it would be a very different world. Albert Einstein once said that in a world without bees, humans wouldn't last more than four years. So now what? You don't need to be a bee farmer to save the bees. Below is a link of simple ways you can help to save our planet's bees!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
