Nope, not the traditional definition.
I don’t even have kids, so I don’t have grandchildren. I’m talking about feeling older, and accepting it (or denying it, although aging is inevitable).
Aging is such a weird concept. Before you know it, a recent memory will be a couple of years old. Days pass, and you don’t realize that you’re actually getting old until your bones start to ache after literally any (even the smallest) form of physical movement. You’ll see wrinkles that weren’t there yesterday.
You notice scars more. Maybe you try not to think about it, but it takes strength to overcome those past hardships and continue living.
As an adult with a more normal job, you will probably be going to bed early, waking up early, getting tired at 5 PM, taking a nap, and still being tired at 9 PM after said nap.
Going out is a very infrequent or non-existent thing, and that will be okay because you and your friends will probably be too exhausted after the work week to go out on Friday or the weekend - or if you're really an adult, you might work weekends too.
Blankets, sweatshirts, and sweatpants are the regular clothing pieces and accessories of choice while chilling at home. It’s necessary to stay warm. For some reason, you get colder as you get older.
Don't trust your ears. Your hearing progressively gets worse, and then fails you. You'll think that someone breathing is someone talking to you. It's a confusing time, growing up.
You’ll forget things. I frequently joke that I have early Alzheimer’s, because I have to write things down, put it in my notes in my phone, or add something to my planner or calendar to remember it. It’s becoming somewhat ridiculous. I’m only 21 years old.
Birthdays become just another day in your life. As a young kid, and as you go through teen years, it's an exciting time, but as you realize that you're growing nearer to old age, arthritis, bone depletion, and your inevitable last day, it's just a day that reminds you that you're progressively slowing down.
Temperature is going to be a horrible thing. You’ll get really warm at times, but be freezing other times. As you age, there’s no happy medium, really.
In the words of Jimmy Buffett, “I’m growing older, but not up.” Obviously you have to take certain responsibilities in life seriously, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun.
The grayish white hair will start appearing in a few years. Good luck. But don't worry, everyone loves Grandmas because they're cute and make you food when you come over.
