Time is money.
Time is hard to come by.
Time is something that no one seems to have enough of. It is easy to forget that everyone has the same amount of time, but how you spend that time is all up to you.
Especially as college students, we have several priorities to balance. Classes, homework, a job, clubs, Greek life, friends, and social events fill up time quickly. Even during summer, commitments can add up and be hard to balance.
For the last year, I have juggled multiple jobs and activities that helped me become a beast at time management.
Here are some of the ways that I make the best use out of my time:
1. Learn to say "no"
No one can do everything. It can be hard to say "no" to a friend or opportunity, but this is necessary at times. Take this as a chance to learn what is most important to you and to eliminate unnecessary time fillers.
2. Naps
Short effective naps will help you to be more productive. Set an alarm and don't spend too much time napping. Twenty minutes to an hour of napping is golden.
Pro-tip: Drink a cup of coffee before passing out. When you wake up, the coffee will have kicked in and you will be ready to conquer the world.
3. Work smarter, not harder
If there are shortcuts or ways to speed up a process, take advantage.
Listen to an e-book during your commute. Put your cell phone in another room when doing homework. Finish several priorities on the same day to free up other days of the week.
4. Set aside time for you
No matter who you are, you need to set aside time to relax. No work, no homework, just time to chill out. Neglecting self-care will make you less productive. Stress can ball up, and it is important to know how to cope and prevent this.
Take a bath, light a candle, watch your favorite show, or call your best friend.
At the end of the day, remember that time spent doing what you love is time well spent—no matter how busy you may be.
