Because I grew up on Long Island, spending countless days at the beach was nothing out of the ordinary. If you drive far enough in any direction you will hit the sea shore, it doesn't get much better than that. Although, I did find little flaws on some beach days, such as sunburn and seagull attacks during lunch time. Here is a list of ten beach bum tips and tricks to help you enjoy your summer at the beach and avoid any of the crabby situations that you may run into.
1. Sand in your pants?
Remove sand from your pants, legs, toes or where ever it may be lingering with baby powder. With a few sprinkles of powder the sand will magically fall off. Not only will it clean you off but it will leave you feeling fresh and clean.
2. Have a little too much fun in the sun?
Pour liquid aloe in an old ice cube tray and freeze it! These frozen aloe cubes will feel like haven as they melt away on your sunburned skin. The combination of cool and refreshing will help ease the pain the sun left behind.
3. Don’t want to share with the seagulls?
Reuse old Coffee Mate containers to hold your favorite snacks. The close-able lid makes easy access for us but not our flying friends. Another great perk is it is also sand proof.
4. Beach hair and you do care?
Mix two of nature’s essentials, Coconut oil and water, in a spray bottle. This dynamic duo will offer your hair moisture and reduce frizz while lounging at the beach this summer. Don’t forget to pack this mixture in your beach bag for the best-looking and healthiest beach waves that mermaids crave.
5. Scared of sticky fingers at the seashore?
Feel confident leaving your beach bags behind while you walk along the water when your money and/or valuables are stashed in a place even Captain Hook won’t think to look. Save old chap-stick tubes and use them as a camouflaged treasure chests. No beach thief will suspect your cash to be hidden in there!
6. No ice packs? No problem!
No one likes when ice melts at the bottom of the cooler and you end up with soggy sandwiches. Kill two birds with one stone with this fun and creative trick. Fill water balloons with water and freeze! Use the frozen balloons as ice packs and when they melt you have perfect water balloons for a chilling fight. Fun for all ages!
7. Don’t want sandy cheeks in your bikini bottoms?
Avoid getting sand on your sheet while you soak up the sun by using a fitted sheet! Using this type of sheet allows you to block sand out by forming a little wall when you place your belongings in its four corners. Who knew the solution to sand was this simple?
8. Call me on my Shell Phone?
Although our phones are “Smart” they are not sand or water proof. Pack some Ziploc bags in your tote and you’ll be all set. Don’t spend tons of money on water proof cases when a Ziploc bag does the same job (in moderation). I don’t recommend sharing your phone with the fishes but it will survive a splash in this cheap plastic armor.
9. Temporary Tattoo?
Yes, you can get a temporary tattoo just by laying on the beach for a few hours. Apply sunscreen into a cool shape such as a sun or a heart. Be creative and be careful not to smudge it! After a day’s worth of sunshine you should have gotten a nice tan and even a new tattoo. Simple and lots of fun!
10. Don’t like the taste of Green Tea? That’s OK!
There is another use for Green Tea besides drinking. Fill a spray bottle with cold Green Tea and some ice cubes. This will make for a great spritz while soaking up the sun. The Green Tea will offer your skin both moisture and relief from the heat.
