Being single on Valentine's Day can be rough for some. Seeing all those commercials for jewelry, lovey-dovey Instagram posts, and every store reminding you to buy your boyfriend/girlfriend something special can make a person wish they had someone as their Valentine. It is totally normal to feel this way- trust me I feel this way as well. Us singles need to come together and realize that we don't need someone as our Valentine. Instead of having a valentine this year, I'll be my own valentine. As Parks and Recreation characters, Tom Havorford and Donna beautifully articulate: "treat yo self."
Here is a list of nine different things you can do to "treat yo self" this year on Valentine's Day!
1. Buy yourself some chocolate.
Who needs someone to buy you chocolate and risk you not liking it when you could just buy your favorite chocolate yourself?
2. Spa day!
Whether you go out to the spa or have an in-home spa day, paint your nails, do a face mask, have a bubble bath, take time to relax.
3. Shop til you drop.
Whenever I like to treat myself, I'll buy whatever I've been keeping an eye on. Whether it be a cute new top or some random thing from Amazon, buy it and don't stress about the money- TREAT YO SELF!
4. Eat your favorite foods.
Order a pizza, make yourself some cookies, buy some chocolate covered strawberries- go crazy!
5. Stay away from social media.
Ok, social media may be hard to ignore but if you don't want to see the cute couples and the Pandora charm bracelet their boyfriend just got them, I advise you to steer clear of all social media.
6. Go out on a date.
By yourself, of course. Get some dinner at your favorite restaurant or go see a movie- at least you are only paying for one person this time.
7. Dress up!
As Debbie from Shameless said, "if you make yourself look good on the outside, it can make you feel better on the inside."
8. Or wear pajamas all day.
If you don't feel like putting on makeup and doing your hair, wear pajamas. Today is about YOU and what makes YOU feel good.
9. Avoid heartbreak at all costs.
Repeat after me: "I will not text my ex even if I feel really lonely."
