Your Guide to Winter Laziness and Productivity

The Essential Parts Of A Balanced Snow Day

For every complaint against the snow we have yet to receive, there is someone rejoicing at the idea of a perfect winter day. Last time I checked the Spring Equinox begins on March 20th. With that being said, let me invite you to accept this weather and follow my guide to making your snow day the best one yet.

Whether you are a young child, student, or working adult, the perfect snow day is a marriage of both indoor and outdoor activity. Let’s face it you’ll have to shovel or end up taking the trash out at some point. These suggestions aren't anything you haven't seen, but be sure to take them into account. The combination of light productivity and well deserved relaxation can do wonders.

Lounge Wear

The first thing you’ll need to do is change out of your pajamas. Even if you plan on staying on the couch all day, the simple act of “getting ready” will make you feel like you accomplished something. Get in your favorite yoga outfit or just throw on some comfy sweats. While you're at it grab all of your essential items as you prepare to park yourself in front of the TV.

Food

The most important meal of the day is breakfast. Many of us are huge on Sunday brunch because it’s a fun and easy way to indulge with friends. Bring the Sunday Brunch to your kitchen while the roads are covered and you're stuck inside. Some great options are french toast and smoothies. They're both incredibly easy to make and even easier to stuff your face with.

Music

It’s probably been a while since you updated your playlists. Now would be a great time to sort through your music and add the songs that make you roll the windows down. I say this with great anticipation of warmer days.

Books

It’s too late to make a Barnes & Noble run, but it’s never a bad idea to revisit a book you already read. It’s like watching a movie you love over and over again — you pick up on things you might have missed the first time.

Outdoors

This one is a no brainer. Go out and play, shovel, build a fort, or just sit and enjoy the stillness that surrounds you. If you’re really feeling it, then go ahead and do some snowga.

Taxes

Get your taxes done. I know too many people who haven't done them. Just get them out of the way. A refund is always a good thing.

Create

According to studies, birth rates seem to rise 9 months after a snow storm. This isn’t an invitation to get pregnant. This just solidifies the fact that we were put on this Earth to create. Get your notepad out and write or teach yourself how to draw something new. Creating is the best way to be productive. It doesn’t matter if you love the end result. What does matter is allowing yourself to get lost and discover things about yourself along the way.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
