There is a question that bothers a lot of people. It baffles them and sometimes leave them hopeless. It makes them question their lives and whether being a good person matters. That question is why do the good die young? How come bad things happen to good people?
When you see terrible things happen to good people, it makes you question what's worth being a good person because in the end, you will still end up broken. It's the unfairness of life that shakes people's faith, whether it is their religion, love or life itself. It is one of those questions that never can be really answered and nobody dares to answer it, in fear that they won't like the answer. The fear of the unknown ties into this question because how can someone who deserves the world, fall? The most people can answer is "everything happens for a reason," which is always the worst answer because it doesn't answer the "reason." It is especially a bad answer to someone who has been hurt or has lost someone, because right then they don't want to hear that there is some reason for a terrible thing to happen to someone who is undeserving of it.
It's a baffling idea, bad things happening to good people because it happens too often. How come the most beautiful people in the world, inside and out, fall so far? Why are they the ones who are treated the worst? How come the good die young and the faithful are cheated? Is it possible that perhaps there aren't any rewards for being a good person? Or does this mean that the best people are the ones who must go through obstacles to find peace? Is life some rite of passage we must face? Do all the beautiful minds have to become warriors in order to survive the inevitable?
A lot of good people who have lived their lives caring for others and being as selfless as they can be, has cried so many nights. A lot of good people are treated badly or forced to live a life without basic human necessities like food and water. What's worse is too many bad people have lived fortunate lives. It's a hard pill to swallow but unfortunately it's true, but if everything happens for a reason, what is the reason for that? There isn't a valid answer and the only comfort is that the ones who suffered are usually the humble ones, because they eventually found peace in whatever form it came. Whether their peace came in family or the humility came with their strength within, knowing that they survived and remained true to themselves. Perhaps being the best you can be can only come with the price of a broken heart. However, in the end, the soul and mind of those who suffered will always be better than those who have suffered none.
