You’re having a bad day.
You wake up, quite literally, on the wrong side of the bed. You aren’t able to get yourself caffeine or food or a decent outfit before starting your day. Everything and anything that could possibly go wrong has and will continue to go wrong throughout the rest of your day.
A bad day is completely normal, but that doesn’t make it any easier. Here are five things that you need to remind yourself when tackling your bad days:
1. Today is just one day.
I said this jokingly to a friend after a particularly overwhelming morning class, and since then we’ve kind of adopted it as our go-to-saying. Today is just a day. It’s simple, it’s kind of stupid, but it’s a good reminder that bigger and better things are coming your way soon.
2. How much does this really matter?
My aunt once told me that a good way to measure a stressful situation is in terms of fives. For example, is this something that is going to matter in five minutes? What about five hours? Five weeks? Five years? Sometimes the best way to ground yourself is to remember that a lot of stress is temporary and that you can get through it.
3. Bad days happen. Bad days suck. But bad days are temporary.
Enough said. It’s okay not to be okay, and you shouldn’t have to pretend that your bad day isn’t so. It sucks, yes, but it’s only for now.
4. Tomorrow is a new day.
Whether that day be better or worse, it’s a fresh slate. There’s nothing better than a good night's sleep to clear your head. Don’t let your bad day keep you up late; get some sleep because you deserve it.
5. You are amazing.
Bad days have the tendency to wear you out until you forget how wonderful you truly are. Here’s your reminder: you are amazing. Make yourself of tea, have a snack, watch an episode of you favorite show. Just take care of yourself and don’t let your bad day consume you.
Today is just one bad day, and your bad day won’t last. Just keep keeping on and things will look better soon enough.
