A college campus is like another planet sometimes. College students get to live in their own world with their own schedules, time, and freedom. So when you go home for the first time in a while, everything is the same and different all at once. Here are 11 distinct feelings college students experience when they travel home for the holidays.

1. You missed your pet.

You are most excited to see your fluff ball, fur baby after being away for far too long. And yeah, it is nice to see your family too.

2. You are a Back Home Baller.

Is it really your fault your family missed you so much? And is it so bad if you are totally going to take advantage of it?

3. You can catch up on sleep.

You have been looking forward to the comfort of your home bed for months. But it is different from your comfy dorm bed with the 3 inch foam padding. How confusing. At least you can sleep and both are comfy.

4. You see your hometown best friends.

There is a strong feeling of joy when the squad gets together for the first time after months.

5. You are clingy.

You want to be around someone for Every. Single. Second. It is okay and freeing to be alone at college, but at home it is boring.

6. You savor mom’s home cooked meals.

There is literally nothing better. You are also looking forward to the local restaurant food you have been craving for months.

7. The unappetizing food in the fridge is an insult.

Since you are home, you are forced to eat the food already in the house, which is nothing that you get to choose because you are leaving in a few days anyway.

8. Your room is a mess.

You do not remember your room being filled with so much of your stuff. That is not even including all of the new random boxes and storage items your family decided to shove in there.

9. Showering in luxury.

You get to shower without shoes. And in privacy. What a luxury! But you also have to gather all your scattered supplies because you do not have the convenience of a shower caddy.

10. You are faced with the lesser half of your closet.

All of your favorite clothes are at school. You could not pack them because you had to haul other stuff home. So you are forced to wear the worst half of your home closet, and you feel like you traveled back to your unfashionable past.

11. The tale of two homes.

You slip up at least once and call college home, proceeding to get an odd look from your parents. Okay yes, you have two homes now. And both are equally special.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
