I've got a confession. Something has been weighing heavy on me these past few years and I feel like now is the right time to let it off my chest.
The Bachelor contestants don't want to find love, they want to find fame, more specifically, Instagram fame. They eat, sleep, and breath the influencer lifestyle and salivate at the opportunity to promote sponsored content on their social channels after the show ends. Yes, I’m talking about you, SugarBearHair, FabFitFun, SkinnyFit Tea, and HelloFresh.
Now, I’m sure I’m not the only one who thinks this. Right?
Coming from someone who isn’t actually a real fan of The Bachelor (I like to say that I love to hate it), I somehow end up following many of the girls on Instagram. To be honest, I’ve just started dabbling in the land of “Bachelor Nation” within the past couple of years. The first season I actually sat down and watched was Ben Higgins, so, you could say I’m a rookie. That aside, I’ve noticed that every season that I’ve watched, there tends to be a girl squad that forms, similar to the popular group in high school, who band together and subsequently blow up on social media in a matter of weeks. After the show ends, they pick up and move to Los Angeles, hop around to different influencer events, and change their Instagram bio to an email they can be reached at for business inquiries.
I actually had to unfollow quite a few ex-contestants because I was sick of seeing ad after ad, except for JoJo, of course. I could never unfollow her even though she’s a repeat offender of sponsored posts, raving about the new FabFitFun box every chance she gets.
A large majority of these women held, for lack of a better term, “normal jobs” before they hit the big screen, or should I say the small screen on The Bachelor. Teachers, Account Managers, Attorneys, Nurses are among the 10 most common professions according to Homes.com.
I often wonder what happens to these girls jobs while they go on the show? Do they quit? Does their boss allow them to take a leave of absence? I’m convinced that many of the girls call it quits and hand in their resignation letter with hopes and dreams of becoming influencers once the whole thing is said and done.
Aerie, Nick, and Ben: the women didn’t want you for love, they wanted you for followers.
